Yea, this is definitely some decomposing farm animal. Of course you know how the media will put a spin on a simple story.

I think you nailed it when you said that the “fins” are in fact the shoulder blades.

Yeah, so these poor city folks on vacation find something that looks like it came from the bowels of hell and call the media. Hope the kids don’t have nightmares. But the fact that they ran the story points to one of my “pet” theories – how very badly we humans want, need,even, to have mysteries in our lives. Science explains so many things that used to be sources of wonder for people, and Hollywood can whip them up out of thin air. What’s left?

Wow, didn’t think of the “fins” being shoulder blades. You bring up excellent points.
The carcass looks odd to me, but then again living in L.A. you really don’t see many animals besides dogs, rats and the occasional weirdo.

I tried to contact the people from the Agriculture Dept. in Chile, but have not heard back yet. I’m curious to know what this is. I’m sure that a decomposing body that has been underwater or ripped apart by scavengers will look like it came from hell.

Morning Javier. Looks like a goat to me. The “fins” are actually the shoulder blades. The hooves are cloven, like deer,cows, goats and other ruminants – chambered stomach, chews its cud… They’re also relativly soft tissue and my be gone from the front legs. The skull is also goat-like. Things look very different without their skin! Did the Mauntauk Monster from last summer look like a raccoon? That’s what Cryptomundo says it was. Glad you found this, though. Your abiliity to translate these Videos and news items opens them up to those of us who’s Spanish is limited to Sesame Street and a couple of swear words!
