Ghostly hand caught on video?
Promotional banner for the TV showFrom the State of Sonora, Mexico comes this incredible account and video evidence that I find hard to explain. Before I jump into the translation and analysis part of the videos, let me quickly talk about the origins of the video.
In Sonora there is a paranormal investigative group called “Relatos de ultratumba” (stories of life after death ). This group take full advantage of the web 2.0 community by directly uploading their investigations to YouTube and creating an online community through forums and their YouTube Channel. They also appear on Mexican Television as a 30 minute ghost/paranormal program.
Many of you know that we scrutinize these paranormal TV groups because of their shoddy investigations and evidence. This Mexican group is no exception. I must admit that I have not seen their TV shows, but I have seen a few of their “webisodes” on YouTube. The program is highly edited and follows the footprints of most other ghost hunting shows. No surprise there.
The group went on to investigate a so called “Lady in white” case. This is a supposed investigation of a ghost that is said to scare the locals in a highway between Guaymas and Empalme, Sonora.
On their third visit to an abandoned building, the group managed to capture something that I’m sure will baffle the minds of even the most hardcore skeptic.
Tthe video itself shows something that’s worth looking into. It is of poor quality, but shows what appears to be a ghostly hand reaching in through the car window. The reactions of the whole team seems real, and the state of shock of the person to which the hand was, or appears, to be trying to grab is Oscar worthy if anything.
I usually translate word for word videos that are of the Spanish language. Given that this is a very long video, I will translate parts of it, and point out interesting parts you should forward to.
Bear in mind that we are not saying that this a video of a ghost, we are just saying that this deserves to be analyze even more.
From the text:
“The following story is 100% true. It happened on the third visit into the investigation of the “Lady in white” that appears in a highway. Between Guaymas and Empalme Sonora, what you will see next is not staged. It is the reactions of the encounter we had, face to face with the spirit. The spirit takes shape and only shows an arm and hand. You can see clearly that it comes down from the hill, it comes close to the car and grabs the [car's] window. Trying to grab at a passenger in the car.”
Fast forward to the 1:12 mark and we see them arriving at the abandoned building. Emergency lights are reflecting off the facing wall. At the 1:26 mark, you see the ghostly mist. Not looking like much, the video of the supposed “Reaching ghost hand” looks like cigarette smoke.
Play and watch it for a few minutes. You will hear the occupants of the car take off and lose control of the investigation. They are yelling things like “This was not supposed to happen” and “I felt something trying to jump in me”.
The person in the back, Jose, appears to be in a state of shock. The lady in front keeps saying “wait, wait, Jose is sick. There is something wrong with him”.
OK, play the video and watch their reactions and expressions.
In this cleaned up version of the events, we can appreciate the “ghostly hand” more. It’s important to know that in the beginning, the person with the camera asks: “Why is this blurry?”
referring to the camera’s inability to focus on the building. The second person answers with: “It’s out of focus” to which the camera man replies: “No no no, it zooms in and out.”
As soon as this happens, the image manifests itself.
The video is paused and the team decides to draw out what they think it is they have captured on video. Translating the text, it reads:
Dedos = fingers
Mano = hand
Palma de mano = palm
Vidrio del carro = car’s glass
It is not until the :30 second mark that we can actually see clearly what it is they’ve captured. When the video is slowed down (around the :36 second mark) we really get a clear view.
It does not move or behave like smoke. It’s more as if a person’s hand and arm was trying to reach in and grab something. Or a snake lunging at its prey.
Given what you have just seen, what do you make of this? are these some easy to do CG effects? Can this all be just a hoax to get more ratings or recognition?
Or this this really a spectral hand reaching out?

Javier, Very interesting, but I don’t think anyone can prove this is real or not, except the people involved.It is interesting that the smokey image doesn’t look CGI or any special effects that I’m aware of, maybe its a genuine thing?
These folks involved should get new equipment if they want to have a name in the industry they chose, or the field won’t take them seriously.
Would of been nice if they had top of the line equipment, if it is real; they could of had unique and rare film footage that holds up water.

Yea, that is something I don’t understand. The video quality is horrible. Like using a cheap cell phone at night to record. We know that they in fact had a video camera and not a cell phone.
So I don’t know what the quality is bad. Overall, it’s a cool video in my opinion, but like you said, without proper equipment, it’s hard to take the video as more than just a “probability”.
While the reactions seem real, I wonder…..
Is the window up in the car? Does anyone know? I suspect that the window is up and what they see is a reflection in the window. A car passing from behind makes sense as there is a repeat of the movement after the main incident. The trajectory seems identical, this would make me believe that it is a car passing behind and a reflection on the inside of the window.
As someone who is involved in both video editing and paranormal research, I’d say at first glance the image is “in camera” as the same grain can be seen on top of it.
It is still a very interesting video, but any of these programs must be viewed as suspect as their main goal (more viewers) clashes with the aims of paranormal research.
I really wish the video quality was better, but how many times do we ask that?

I appreciate you translating and bringing it to our attention Javier. The video quality is absolutely terrible. It’s like it was filmed with one of those old Fisher Price Pixelvision cameras. I’m not joking. It is that bad. I think it could be something interesting but the quality of the video is so bad it’s impossible to say. I honestly did not know there were cameras still being made that were that crappy.

its interesting – and weird. again, as everyone else has mentioned, its not concrete proof of anything paranormal but certainly when the ‘mist’ is slowed down it looks interesting.
First thing that sprung to mind was a group of small light insects of some kind that, due to the blurry camera kinda ended up much more smoother, and hence misty looking, than they might have otherwise.
Hard to say unless you where there type job i reckon.
Hi friends, every week i google it my self and thats how i found this interesting post. let me introduce my Self, im juan pablo pantoja, the creator of Relatos de Ultratumba and i appear on this videos as the driver.
I used a dsr sony camera with only one IR led, because the camera was shoting outside the vehicule i had to increase the brihgtnes of the image, thats why the video looks pixeleate. The windows was 3/4 down, the hand moves to the windows and hold it, then she moves away.
I didn’t see anything, i only was hearing Jose (the cap’s guy) and the others telling what happend, when i come back to my place and check the video I discovered the ghost….
I have 27 paranormal investigations of Relatos de Ultratumba and this is the only image close to a ghost evidence.
The last week i upload a new evidence wich support that video, 1.5 years late i came back with equipment, an EMF Meter and IR lamps, the meter detect activity in the same room, If you see the first video you will see the front of a house and one windos, we was into that room pointing the EMF to that windows and we have activity. I came back many times before that and never detect activity again.

To many of the GhostTheory readers, the question was “why does a seasoned paranormal investigator use such a cheap camera?”
Your explanation makes sense.
Although we are always looking for the logical explanation to all things paranormal, this to me seems hard to explain.
I saw your other video (the update to the case). Good Job.
I hope that there will be more evidence collected on this case, so that we can have a bit more tangible evidence to go by.

I will explain the second video:
In october of 2008 i met Miguel, he’s from mexico city, he saw the video on youtube and when he visited Guaymas (the city of the video) he has the curiosity to look the place, he took photos and in one photo appear a ligth in the window, after that ther saw a black shadow in the house. He told me that experiencie and we went to the place to explain and know the facts,
Miguel and their people appear on the video. I told miguel: Miguel do you remember the place where was locate the ligth at the window in the photo? and he with scary voice answer: Yes…. and with his hand apoint the place, then i moved the EMF to that place and the EMF Meter detect activity.

Also i want to add, in the first video after the ghost appear i took the camera and located in the front of the car, the brightness filter was not necesary at that point because its more easy iluminate with one IR led the interior of a car than the exterior about 20 fts of distance on complete darkness
