Ghost picture taken at Stevenston Beach
Ghostly image? or non-ghostly reflection?
OK, time to put on your thinking caps on. We have a picture of 2 young girls posing in front of a campfire, someone taking their picture using a cellphone and what appears to be a ghostly image of third person in the shot.
Right off the bat, I notice that the pose of the “ghost” seems to be that of a kneeling photographer.
IMAGINE the shock a Stevenston mum got when a photograph of her daughters appeared to have an extra person in it.
Charlene Wieringa is the latest Three Towns resident to have one of her pictures occupied by a ‘ghostly’ figure.
Her partner Scott Arthur took the photo on his mobile phone and it shows Courtney (12) on the right with little sister Elise (5).
Charlene said: “We were down at the beach because some friends of ours had come over with their camper van. We had a bonfire and Scott took a picture of the girls and we didn’t notice anything.
“It wasn’t until later when Scott was going through his phone deleting pictures that he came across it again and we thought we could see something.
“Scott thinks it’s smoke from the fire but the girls and I think it looks a bit like a Scottish soldier. We’d be interested to hear what other people think.”
Several people from the local area have contacted the Herald with similar pictures that feature uninvited guests in the background.
Herald reporter Fiona Simpson even went out on a ‘ghost hunt’ at Ardrossan South Beach one night and there were some interesting results. The video from that evening can still be seen on our website under the World of the Weird section.
What can you see in Charlene’s photograph? Does it look like a Scottish soldier or can you see something else? The photo was taken a few months ago just off Stevenston point at the beach.

Not enough detail. Looks like the picture was enhanced and cropped. I can’t even begin to make heads or tails of it till I can see the un-edited original.
I really wish people would learn this and post a link to the picture the camera spit out… This seems to be a typical problem in ghost research.
I don’t see anything unusual- just a typical terrible quality cell phone pic.
After blowing it up: IMO it’s a man with glasses and a hat either sitting or kneeling down with one hand on his face and the other on his knee. He even looks to be wearing gloves. I think he might have kneeled down just for a second but back far enough in the darkness so as the photographer didn’t notice him. I’d say he’s at least 5 feet back from the subjects and could have easily been missed and then shows up in the picture due to the flash.
i’d say: run, little girls, run!!!!
naw – i’d say both jbondo and javier have it covered.
Its obviously a double exposure , the right leg of the “soldier” is the left of the woman look at the shoe colour , the head and torso is that of the girl.Of course this is taken but a seond before the exposed one.
