Friday Video: Amityville, Horror or Hoax?
One of the most known and controversial stories in the annals of the paranormal is the “Amityville Horror”. The story has such an elaborate plot, with enough conspiracies to make the writers of any of the CSI shows jealous.
I remember reading the book when I was a teenager, and I have to be honest, it was a very terrifying read. I did not know any better so I assumed that it was all true. Throughout the years the controversies started to surface. Eyewitnesses would claim that they have seen and felt strange occurrences in the home, while officials investigating the case claimed the opposite.
The movie and the book written about the murders and haunting are really well written. As far as it being all true, I think this was all just a hoax. The Warrens were involved with the investigation and right away deemed this to be the “most haunted house in America”.
Although to this day I have not really heard much about the picture of the little boy that seems to be peeking out from a room. The story behind it is that supposedly when the investigators (including a reporter) and psychics were in the home, they had setup a tripod on the second floor, snapping pictures every so often. On one of the pictures you see the clear face of a boy, peering out through the doorway. This is not pareidolia or some trick of light, this is a genuine solid object. The report claims that no children were present during the investigation. So was this one of the DeFeo kids who was murdered? To this day, the photograph creeps me out.

I sent that pic to someone and they were freaked out. Definitely a creepy pic.
I read most of the Warrens’ books and enjoyed them; I personally liked them and did not feel they were bs artists. I’m not Catholic so I do experience a bit of disconnect with all the ritual. I also thought the first Amityville book and quite possibly the second were mostly truthful, or at least had a core that was genuine.
After the original book sold well the publishers likely got it into their heads that they had a gold making franchise on their hands and, with or without the nod of the Lutzes, who probably wanted to recoup some of their lost investment on the house, churned out a bunch of books and movies that WERE complete bs.
Javier, did you know that Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry roomed together at the house (not the Amityville house) where Jay Anson wrote the book and got spooked by odd occurrences? Both had just left a drug detox program so it COULD have been the dt’s. LOL. I believe it came down to weird sounds in parts of the house when they knew they were alone.
If you zoom in on the photo (about 400%) it becomes obvious that it’s not a boy with glowing eyes, but a women wearing eyeglasses that are reflecting light. It would be interesting to try to locate pictures taken during the same investigation to compare it with any eyeglass-wearing women that were in the house that day.
is this real ???????
I don’t know what to think. I do beleive there probably is sad energy in the house. I think depending on the person on how open you are you may pick up on these unwanted feelings or not.
This seemed compelling until I learned that the picture was taken by “psychics” and team from Channel 5 New York…. They are the ones that said there were no children in the house at the time of the “investigation” (if you could call it that). Seems like it would be easy for them to say that so they could take this “amazing” photo and pass it off for a picture of a ghost. I’d imagine this would be a career boosting investigation with pictures like this coming from it…. Sorry to say, but it’s just a little boy that was running around the house…. As for those who say his eyes are glowing… go take a look through a photo album and I think you will notice glowing eyes in many pictures…. I’m not convinced that this is evidence anymore
That boy looks kinda like little daniel Radcliff! Okay seriously that photo gave me nightmares for weeks.
It was thought that this photo was/is a hoax photo taken by the Warrens with their infrared equipment. I’ve been researching some of America’s most haunted places for a novel I’m writing and the Amityville Horror keeps popping up. Every time I see this photo and the other one of the same “boy” taken by the Warrens, I get weirded out. I’ve alway been intrigued by the Lutz’s claim on what happened at 112 Ocean Avenue. I honestly don’t know what to think of the Lutz’s story, a lot of what they said corroborated with what really happened when Ronald DeFeo killed his entire family, George waking up at 3:15 every morning and claiming he didn’t know till later that it was figured that that was the time DeFeo committed the murders and Kathy’s claim that all of her kids slept on their stomachs and that was how the police found the murdered DeFeo children. I guess you have to have a very open mind on this whole subject, whether you believe its real or if you believe its a hoax. Since all the key players in this story are now dead its hard for a writer like myself to know fact from fiction. Maybe this will truly be an unsolved mystery.
No paranormal show should be taken seriously. The groups that do have a show have to sign contracts giving total content control over to the producers. Now that Jay and Grant are producers they show has actually gotten worse. There is no excuse for the crap they are putting out there each week.
The truth is that most paranormal investigations yield little evidence IF the investigators are doing their job correctly.
I have been an active investigator since 2004. We receive 3 to 5 investigation requests per week. We are a very busy group. But if your investigation team does not have credible people that can come up with alternative reasons for ghosts in a home, then it does no good in even investigating a location.
If Jason hears one single thump, that is a footstep. Anything goes as evidence now on Ghost Hunters.
Jay and Grant are making money of the people that are paying hundreds of dollars to buy their cheap crap and to spend time with them. So, if you are handing over your hard earned dollars to spend time with them, then you are part of the problem that is called paranormal television.
can people still go in the house
Bob is right. If you zoom in it’s so obvious that the figure is wearing glasses. I’m also inclined to agree that it’s a woman, judging by the hairstyle with what looks like some grey hair on the side.
