Haywood Zarathustra,

Well that's assuming that what Barry saw was an animal.
I mean, it could have been a prankster attempting to scare people or something else.

Interesting to know about the existing population near the Greyhound.

Javier, I do believe what our man Barry saw in the Park was definitely not a specimen of de Loys' ape. Although there is an isolated breeding population of de Loys' within throwing distance of the Greyhound terminal on Eighth Avenue, specifically within the seven trees known as Bob's Woods, this area is a vast distance from the location of Barry's sighting, probably at least some 400 yards.
It's probably a true enigma given the area. The spoor and scat are very different.

You know, I was going to add my sarcastic comment when it occurred to me that this guy could very likely have been a victim of a very well orchestrated sighting. In my mind it could have been anything from a guy trying to scare people to an exercise in finding effective themes for Scare Tactics by the producers. In other words, I think the guy actually saw what he saw but it was a human dressed up.

I myself went on safari in Central Park in late '99 in search
of the very rare Curmudgeon Ape, an offshoot of the last remnant
of the swamp silverback, a breed of lowland gorilla not seen
since the late nineteenth century on Block Island.

It is possibly related to Piltdown Man, and is readily recognizable by the forward thrusting occipital ridge, which you will notice is a vestigial artifact of the much more commoner de Loys' Ape. My expedition found tantalizing hints of its recent comings and goings, but alas, we came up short.

To pick up the trail of my fabled trek, simply sprint out of the U.S. postal building at the edge of the park. Run into the park for 100 yards and you will be in deepest antediluvian conifer forest, almost untouched by man. A sign reading "Place Trash Here" marks the start of the safari of long ago. Be aware that the species is shy and retiring.

It sounds very much like the Pukwudgies of Freetown State Forest in Massachusetts. Yes its a long shot but cryptozoology is still in its infancy stage as far as what we know and what we think we know...
