Mysterious Creature Attacks Animals In Kentucky

Submitted by on December 13, 2012 – 3:06 AM9 Comments | 3,641 views

Thanks Andy W. for the tip!

Nine goats and four calves have been found mauled to death in Shelby County, Kentucky. The mysterious creature attacked the livestock not to feed, but to kill. The bodies of the animals were found with their faces mauled and bodies intact.

Rust Newton, Deputy County Judge Executive, says, “It’s not doing it to kill the animal to eat, these animals are just being mulled. That’s where the mystery is at this point.”

This of course raises several questions as to what predatory animal behaves in such manner.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A mystery in Shelby County has people on high alert.

Something is on the prowl, attacking animals and leaving them for dead.

People say a creature attacked nine goats and about three to four calves in the past couple weeks.

Rust Newton, Deputy County Judge Executive, says, “It’s not doing it to kill the animal to eat, these animals are just being mulled. That’s where the mystery is at this point.”

Neighbors say it lurks in the woods, and only comes out at night.

No one has seen the creature, but people are on the lookout. A couple found what they believe are tracks from the animal.

Frank Edwards lives in the area. He says, “We’ve got trail cameras out, we’ve got traps out it’s like it’s smarter than we are.”

County officials are holding a meeting Monday night at 6:30 in Waddy to inform neighbors.

I'm a writer, a runner, and a hell of a coffee drinker residing in Los Angeles. I'm currently working on a book about Doris Bither and her terrifying account of a haunting in Culver City, California. The case was dubbed "The Entity" and it stands to be one of the most controversial cases ever to be studied by parapsychologists.

I think it’s a giant dragon. Maybe fire breathing and stuff.

“The mysterious creature attacked the livestock not to feed,…” sounds like “UPH” Unidentified Possessed Hu’man!

“This of course raises several questions as to what predatory animal behaves in such manner.” — why does this raise questions? Wolves and fox are known to behave in this way. Not all killing in nature is because an animal is hungry.

The paw print should be able to solve the mystery, at least down to a genus (canine, feline, etc)

  • Roy

Not knowing the size it’s hard to say, but it looks like a cougar print.

Dog. See how the toe tracks are pointed? Canine paw prints are that way, claws wear down but don’t retract like cats. Short claws, this dog travels a lot on foot. Wild canines kill to eat, dogs often don’t connect animals with food because they were never fed raw meat. Domestic dogs often enjoy killing, once they experience it. You’ll see horrible things, maiming of animals that isn’t even deadly, because the dog is having fun. Put up a trail cam, you’ll get a pic of somebody’s pet, wearing a collar and a rabies tag, killing goats and calves inefficiently. Nothing worse than a family dog that learns to kill.

  • MuswellHill

If it is is somebody’s pet dog how do you know it will have a collar on and a rabies tag? It is so unusual for an animal to attack from the front as apparently this one is doing. Maybe it is a rabid animal, pet or wildlife.

Goats and calves, smaller animals to take on, the dog print also helps in proving this is just a dog that’s got out and it killing off some animals, just a large breed.

  • Ralph Hunter

knew a st bernard who dragged his doghouse off its base to kill the neighbor’s sheep. trail cam is a great idea.
