Paranormal News Aggregator Sees Fit To Lie

I will be completely upfront about this. This commentary is spurred by the fact that another web news aggregator has chosen to lie about what I have said in an article.
The website, The Anomalist compiles a list of links to every other unexplained website out there, and little more. From time to time the add a snarky comment, typically little more than a sentence or two. They offer no research. They offer no content of their own. They simply milk the work of others for minimal content.

THE ANOMALIST IS A DAILY REVIEW OF WORLD NEWS ON MAVERICK SCIENCE, UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES, UNORTHODOX THEORIES, STRANGE TALENTS, AND UNEXPECTED DISCOVERIES.

Now, they may well remove the offending statement, and if they remain true to form the link as well. Yes I have complained to them in the past about comments regarding my stories. I posted this article about fossil evidence of a giant cephalapod possibly creating a self portrait of sorts titled Cryptids Of Old. The Kraken Discovered?, back in July of 2013, which they referred to as “egregious.” Right next to that critique, they happily posted yet another story about the Avro Aircar being evidence of the US government developing UFO technology, without comment. If you would like to read about why that is laughable, feel free to examine my own article on the subject.

I posted a recent article about a case that has been prominent in the news. Two Maryland women are charged in the deaths of two children belonging to one of the women, and the severe injury of two other children, siblings of those killed. Here is what The Anomalist has to say:

Just as scandalous is Henry Paterson’s dispatch on some Murder Charges In An Exorcism. Two ladies in Maryland were compelled by the power of Christ to evict spiritual squatters from their kids the old fashioned way, with cold steel. As an apparent non-sequitor, Henry lays fault on the shoulders of the church for their stance on the rite of exorcism. The only time I saw knives being necessary implements of exorcism was in 1976’s The Omen. Thanks to the internet, the complete exorcism ceremony is available for scrutiny.

Here is the actual excerpt from my own article, to which The Anomalist takes offense

Unfortunately for these children, their guardians were ignorant enough to believe they were doing right.

From ReligionFacts.com

The Bible teaches that demons are evil and fallen. They are evil in that they oppose God who is good and love and they are fallen in that they once held a more lofty position yet were punished due to their rebellion.

Job 4:18, “Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly.” (KJV)

Matthew 25:41, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” (KJV)

And then the church promotes the idea of exorcisms by offering it as a service and employing people to perform that service.

Vatican Looking for Exorcists

Well there are always going to be DIYers. The church is as complicit in the deaths of these 2 children and the injuries and psychological damage suffered by the surviving children just as much as the ignorant women who committed these crimes. Of course the church has a long history of sidestepping its culpability and responsibility so I am certain none of those who perpetrate crimes like these on society as a whole will suffer a moments unease over it.

To condense the problem down so that the writes of The Anomalist can understand them, they claim:

Henry lays fault on the shoulders of the church for their stance on the rite of exorcism.

Where I have said

The church is as complicit in the deaths of these 2 children and the injuries and psychological damage suffered by the surviving children just as much as the ignorant women who committed these crimes.

“…as complicit…” for the reading  comprehension impaired means the church shares equal blame, not sole blame for an act they actively promote as logical treatment of other human beings.  Or do you blame every individual Nazi and give Adolf Hitler and his cronies a free pass in the atrocities committed by Germany during WWII?

Here is a look at the dictionary (or Wikipedia) for the benefit of all involved:

Non sequitur (Latin for “it does not follow”), in formal logic, is an argument in which its conclusion does not follow from its premises.

So, the Catholic Church TEACHES that demon…

A: Exist

B: Can potentially inhabit a human being

C: Can be driven out through a rite called Exorcism

D: Are publicly stating that they need more exorcists because cases of possession are on the increase

And so E: It does not logically follow that the Church has any relation to this crime.

To The Anomalist I say:
You are welcome to post your analysis of what is actually written by me, and justify what you in turn have written. You are welcome to post any facts that dispute that the Catholic Church not only embraces but in fact publicly promotes the concept of exorcism to its followers. What you are not welcome to do is lie.

Have I ever made an error in a story? I certainly have and I have admitted so, gone back and edited that content, and credited the person who pointed me the right direction. Heck, I have even been sucked in by a couple of hoaxes. At GT we offer the reader the chance to post their thoughts and tell us when we are off our nut. Anomalist does not. I offer you all my email address to contact me directly. The Anomalist buries their contact link, in small print, in a place where you would not normally look for it. We the contributors put our name on every story we write. The Anomalist remains anonymous. So feel free to tell me when I am wrong, feel free to call me on anything you think I am just outright lying about.
