The West Midlands Ghost Club team carried out an investigation at the Shrewsbury Library. What they claim to have captured where EVPs of female ghosts. The all male team say that there were no women present during the investigation, yet on one of their recordings they captured female voices.

Ghost-hunters were spooked by weird noises including a “loud metallic clanging” and a bang when they camped out at a Shropshire library for a paranormal investigation.

Members of the West Midlands Ghost Club carried out the investigation at Shrewsbury Library.

They recorded the sounds and are now trying to determine exactly what it was they heard.

The visit, earlier this month, was the second to the library in the space of just a few months following a previous visit in June.

The ghost club returned to the library for a four-hour visit this month after discovering that one of its cameras had seemingly picked up some “peculiar female vocal sounds”.

John Conway, from the club, said: “At 9.55pm members of group one hear a loud metallic ‘clanging’ noise, followed by a very loud ‘bang’ from somewhere inside the building.” He said investigations took place but there was no indication of anything which could have made the sounds.

“We really can’t explain what these sounds were,” he added.

Would probably be more convincing if you didn’t hear people in the background carrying on a conversation. Why do so many ghost hunters feel the need to chatter on while trying to collect evps? Kind of defeats the purpose. Anyway, maybe it’s something. But they really should establish some sort of protocol if they want to be taken seriously.

    Hi All,

Just to correct a couple of points:

Firstly, we most certainly do not claim to have ‘captured EVP’s’. I dislike this term with a vengeance, as it inevitably smacks of psychic-minded, Most Haunted-like, mumbo-jumbo……

Secondly – what the group members concerned in this sequence did was set one video recorder running while setting up a second camera nearby…. hence the voices of the two, male investigators. They set up the second camera and then immediately vacated the area concerned. We were not trying to ‘collect EVP’s’ at all, because, as a rule, we don’t acknowledge the existence of such things as denoted by that particular form of terminology. It just so happened that this set of female, vocal sounding noises turned up on the resulting recording. We put no more emphasis – or importance – on the sequence than that…….

We’re certainly not claiming that we caught – nor were we even looking for – so-called EVP’s.

The recording of the metallic clang mentioned in the article was caught during a follow up investigation on Sept. 11th. The sequence concerned can be downloaded from the following source:

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies…… and, of course, for taking interest in our article in the first place!! Laugh!!

Unfortunately, you seldom seem to get accurate coverage from the media, no matter how well you try and put yourself over and how attentive they are to you…. I think we’ve had around 250 mentions in print now (give or take) and I can easily count the number of decent articles we’ve had on two hands! Laugh!

Our first visit to the site was covered in the article below:

    http://www.shrewsburychronicle.com/2009/07/02/things-that-go-bump-in-the-night/

As usual, mistakes were made!! Laugh, laugh!! I believe I have rectified the error in the following blog post, however! Laugh!:

Anyway – thanks again guys…… and keep up the good work!!

    Regards,

    Nick

    Sorry Guys,

I forgot to mention previously that the WMGC is not an all male team….. We actually have 3 female members.

What was stressed at the time of the article being written was that there were no women present when the recording was made.

    Regards,

    Nick

    Thanks for the updates Nick!

  • BC says:

Thanks very much for the updates Nick. It certainly is a beautiful building to conduct a ghost hunt.

  • Nick says:

    Hi Guys,

I must admit that the place is an absolutely gorgeous building…. I always say that I don’t care what the site looks like as long as it has a good (alleged) ‘ghostly history’….. but I must admit an aesthetically pleasing setting does tend to make an investigation all the more pleasurable!! Laugh, laugh!!!

    Best wishes to all,

    Nick
