A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010

Many of us remember when this movie hit the screen. Many of us remember not being able to sleep at night because of Robert Englund’s creepy portrayal of the sadistic child killer “Freddy Krueger”.
One of the all time creepiest horror movie character made, if you ask me. I’m talking about the first Nightmare movie, forget the rest. Most were just comical.

Check out the trailer for the new Nightmare on Elm Street movie. Sadly Englund does not star in the film. Instead Jackie Earle Haley will portray the character. Which might not be as bad, since his character in “Watchmen” was crazy.

I’m sorry, But remind me why they are re-making this movie? It will never be a freddy movie without Robert Englund…What next, remake of “Alien”? These Hollywood producers and directors ruin these classics by remaking all these horror movies in past 20 some years? Hollywood lost the artform of what a horror movie is, with the “overdone” CGI that makes parts of a movie cartoonish.
SO far, horror movies I’ve seen today are comedies to me.

I think it has to do with people not watching an older movie because it’s ‘old’, thus people feel it’s outdated and not worth watching. They want to redo these movies for the current day and age, thus getting more revenue on a old story.

I agree on overdone CGI. The best horror movies are the cerebral ones that make you think.

  • South Dakota Guy,

Yea I agree with you as well. The CGI on most movies nowadays just cheapens the experience. Take the original ‘Halloween’. No CGI was needed in that. The director’s vision was enough to bring the terror onto the screen.

Now it seems like directors rely too much on computers to make it scary.

On the plus side, I hear that since “Paranormal Activity” is in high demand, it’s coming back to L.A. this week… I’ll try again.

Maybe I can shoot for Press Passes.. :)

  • Brock says:

i thought the halloween remakes were just awful. it was more about how much blood they can put in a scene and whats the easiest ways to get cheap thrills. they replaced all the subtle audio and visual cues that made the old ones scary and replaced it with boo! ans jumping out from behind the corner, i was very disappointed, my girlfriend jumped the whole time but i was bored with it. im not to optimistic about this

ps i read that orb zombie is going to remake the blob but doesnt think the blob is scary anymore so he wants something else. how do you have the blob without a blob?

  • Brock says:

that should say rob zombie, dont know how i messed that up

  • Brock,

how do you have the blob without a blob?

    Rush Limbaugh? That’s scary…

  • Brock says:

    javier,

that would be a horror movie

  • Don Coyote® says:

At least we still have The Gable Film.

  • jbondo says:

Unfortunately it’s a generational thing. Young people have no imagination or ability to anticipate and therefore have to have everything fed to them in shovel fulls.

I’m not a horror fan but I do like Hitchcock films and The Twilight Zone shows.

Rob Zombie is a no talent hack.

  • jbondo,

Every Rob Zombie movie that I have seen is horrible. Always trying to implement his “rock n roll” touch into the movie.

Although I hear that Halloween 2 is supposed to be his pride n joy. We’ll see.

  • Brock says:

i had the “privelage” of watching halloween 2 and i was extremely disappointed with it. it delivered nothing but blood and shock value, im convinced rob zombie should stick to his music and get out of the directors chair before he does some permanent damage to the cinema world. i agree with jbondo completely, my generation has no imagination left and hollywood feeds us more of the usual. lots of blood, lots of effects, lots of gore, no skill.

  • Brock,

I was a afraid of this.

I was giving Rob Zombie another chance, but after what you said, I will probably just skip this movie.

You’re right, he should get out of the director’s chair.
