NBC requests full body apparition video… Wasn’t that video a hoax?

If you’re a loyal reader of GhostTheory, then you might remember an article I did way back in February of this year, titled “Full body apparition? or sloppy hoax?“. On this article I was examining the alleged “full body apparition” that was captured on film by the ghost hunting team P.I.T. Crew (Paranormal Investigation Team).

In the original video that was uploaded on Youtube, there were 2 instances of this apparition. On the first one, it appeared to be wearing a baseball cap:

Then there was the other apparition of the “ghost” in the cowboy hat:

When I had posted my analysis of the video, the member’s of the P.I.T. Crew launched an attack on the analysis, claiming that it was real and that we were smearing their reputation. Saying something along the lines of “be careful who you call out, friend”.

In my post, I was making the obvious connections of what the supposed ghost was wearing and the matching attire that the P.I.T. Crew wears. At first I was apprehensive of saying that this was something done on purpose. I figured it was an honest mistake in the recording. Someone might have gone by the camera and forgot they did while reviewing the footage later on. I made the case by highlighting the high and low contrast on the clothing of the “ghost” and the clothing of the team members.

The whole discussion thread ended in a debacle. I never heard from them again.

Not until this morning when I read the headline news from the Examiner. It read “NBC requests footage of full body apparition caught on video by The P.I.T. Crew for upcoming special“. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.

I saw that on the P.I.T. Crew’s Youtube account they had removed the original video I had analyzed and replaced it 2 months ago with an edited version of it. It only showed the supposed ghost wearing the cowboy hat.
Where did the other version of it go? The version with the baseball cap or beanie wearing “ghost” walks by and then showed another “ghost” wearing a cowboy hat walking by.

I still don’t know exactly what it is they had captured. I can’t say that it’s a hoax or a real ghost, but due to the suspicious actions of the team, I think more analysis needs to be done on the original footage before claiming a full body apparition.

@Javier Ortega: These ghost show producers are all full of $hit.
I mean ALL the shows on TV, and the majority of ghost hunting amatuers as well. Since it is now “hip” there are a rash of “expert” groups appearing.LOL. It wouldn’t be so bad, but they claim they are objective investigators. I remember one episode of the TAPS team, on that other show. They claimed an object flew out of someone’s hand. If there had been full room coverage with the cameras (like is done with “ceiling” cameras in casinos), the source of the object’s trajectory could be determined. For “some reason” however, the camera angle just happened to obscure the action. Convenient right? There may well be real paranormal activity out there, but you’ll never find it on TV. At least not on these entertainment shows. These people are just afraid their cushy entertainment jobs will disappear if skepitcal viewers start to catch on.

  • Anon1,

That’s what we’ve been saying all along. You summed it up.

I think a lot of people claim to use “scientific tools” to debunk paranormal claims, but all they do is look for EVP and spikes in their gadgets. Sometimes when they don’t understand their own equipment, they get accidental ghosts. Like in this case here.

I want to say that there is a possibility that the P.I.T. Crew did capture something odd, but the way the have handled themselves and doctored the film, it just points to something else.

This is why it’s important to remain rational and logical.

Their apparition doesn’t look real at all. The transparency and blur looks like it’s completely fabricated in After Effects.

Also while I missed that post the first time around, I think it’s hilarious that one of their reasonings back to you is “why hire a special effects company” etc – from just THIS video, it’s something that could be mocked up in After Effects in 10 minutes by any design student, or anyone studying the field. There isn’t anything high-end, or even convincing about what they’ve done.

Perhaps they’ve caught genuine stuff, but this is just silly, and the fact they’ve taken down videos, or made others “private” after you commented on them – again, their actions speak louder than words.

To bad, they feel the need to hide the real footage it doesnt help give them any ground to stand on.
