Friday Video: The Exorcist -Story Behind The Book

Many have read the book and seen the movie, but how many know about the story, which was reported by the papers, that inspired William Blatty to write the famous book “The Exorcist” ?
Possession is a controversial subject. I have mixed feelings about possession. It’s one of those things that you really have to be there to believe that people actually levitate and have the strength of 10 men. Like many things in the paranormal, it seems far fetched until it happens to you. This to me seems the least likely to exist. Then again, who am I to dismiss the hundreds of eyewitnesses to these unexplained stories?
Regardless….I think the movie had a kick ass poster

So it wasn’t Catholic as they portrayed in the movie?
As a Christian I do believe that possession is a distinct possibility. However, IMO most occurrences are related to mental illness. As you said Javeir, I’d have to see some evidence but of course if it helps people that are have some sort or hysterical episodes then it wouldn’t really matter. I do think it’s much more difficult to rid someone of an evil entity than to calm them from a self induced episode. It just makes sense.
People can call me crazy but I will not move into a new home without it going thru a cleansing ceremony. Further, IMO this cleansing should be done at least once a year as you never know what a person might carry into your house. I would think that if cleansings were done more often there wouldn’t be a chance for these possessions to take place.
Call me crazy but I am open minded as well as contemporary. I also believe that science and God can work together.
jbondo,
I like your thinking. Although I’m not a religious man, I am spiritual and do believe in cleansing homes. I do believe in residual energy, so I cleanse my place from time to time. Burn a little sage, say some prayers.
That’s probably why you don’t find any “hand-me-downs” in my place.

Thanks for posting this Javier. Although the reenactments tended towards the sensationalist it was interesting hearing some of the people like Thomas B Allen interviewed. I think this was probably a poltergeist that ran it’s course.
