Newport Beach Werewolf? What’s Going On Here?

A while back I wrote about the “Dogman of Southern California“. An account of a few guys who had ran into some creature they could not explain.
Werewolves are mythical creatures, yet so many reports are seen each year about werewolf sightings that it makes no sense. Like Bigfoot, these reports come from all over the US.
Unlike Bigfoot, these reports have less credibility; given what we know about science.
Stephen Wagner from paranormal.about.com shares a story that was submitted to him from a person who witnessed what he claims was a pack of werewolves in Newport Beach California. Not too far from Redlands, CA. The site of the previous “dogman” story.
Another southern California werewolf report?
I better stop drinking the water around here……
By Stephen Wagner, About.com Guide
My sighting took place around 11:30 p.m. on November 4, 2009. I work for the local 73 toll road in Newport Beach, California, and lately we’ve had some construction on the surrounding roads for the past few months. I am a third-shift manager (2 p.m.-11 p.m.), and every night driving home I take the exact same route at pretty much the same time every night.
On this night, I was coming off the exit for the 133 road connector, and I’ll never forget what I saw. While stopped at the stop light, I saw a group of three large, four-legged creatures dash out from the trees along the road. I started second guessing myself and tried to convince myself I was seeing things. I made the left turn at the light, and while the speed limit was still 40 mph at this part, I looked up and almost peed my pants. Those three beasts were running upright! The wolves, which seems to be the most logical guess, were about 6.5 feet tall and looked like they easily weighed 250-275 pounds each. They had snouts and mouths that almost could be expressive (being able to smile/frown) and the fur was dark, although there wasn’t enough light to tell if it was dark brown or black.
My car being a 6-cylinder, it could get going if need be. I was going 45 mph and the giant wolves were keeping up with ease. I then literally put the pedal to the metal and sped up to 70. I was sweating profusely and having a panic attack. As I sped up to 70, the wolves stopped following me, considering I was about to enter a high-traffic part of the road. The wolf in front seemed to stop on a dime and watch me drive off.
I did not hear any howls before or after the sighting. I proceeded to head home ASAP. I told my girlfriend what I saw and she deemed my “imagination was running wild.” I also told my coworkers the next day following the sighting, but nobody believes me to this day. I know I’m not crazy and I know what I saw. I still have been taking the same route home every night and have not run into anything since that night of the sighting. Who knows what they actually were, but all I know is I do not want to run into them again.

sooo creepy! i love stories like this, cause you can tell he’s being honest about what he thinks he saw, and what he thinks he saw is so bizarre & scary. eee!
i have been working on this one BHH case(big hairy humanoid) for some time, at first i thought it could be a Sasquatch. But after reading this article, i just remembered the beast of bray road, and think it’s possible that it could be the same kind of creature? or it’s a good hoax? i would like to believe it’s real, but we will see. good article
Reminds me of something my uncle said to me a long time ago…”Our own perception is our own reality.” Great story! Sounds like something that one would never forget. Who knows what kind of “animal” it really was, but that sounded sincerely like one of the most frightening things he ever went through.
I must admit if I was one of his co-workers, I would have been itching to go down the same road on the next full moon.
OOOOOWWWWWWWOooooooooh
Guy drives same route back and forth to work. Guy is in a funk and follows the same pattern every day. His job is probably pretty mundane.
So, on the way home from work one night guy sees something like a coyote along the road and starts to build a story in his mind while passing the time on the drive. He happens to be online one night after work and reads a Bray Road story or something similar and decides to throw his story out there to see if he can get a reaction.
He gets a reaction.
Unless this guy comes forward to be interviewed and take a lie detector I just can’t bring myself to believe it. Although it is a good story. I expected lots of Vampire sightings this year to be followed by Werewolf sightings. I guess the Wolf jumped over the Vampire.
Curiosity got the best of me and I checked to see if Nov 4 was a full moon. I couldn’t resist lol. Full moon, however, was on Nov 2nd so maybe that part of werewolf lore isn’t accurate.
@jobondo:
When I read and re-read the stories in Linda Godfrey’s “Hunting the American Werewolf” I end with the same assumption you have. These “witnesses” seem bored and want the attention.
Not to downplay any of their account, but if it’s not that they are bored and making up stories, then my next assumption would be some form of animal identification error.
I highly doubt that there are werewolves out there. I doubt it 99.99%
BUT, I still think investigations should be made. Who knows…maybe we discover an evolved wolf hybrid.
Either way, I’m locking my doors when I drive by Newport

Javier,
No matter how much I disbelieve these stories I still lock my doors as well. Any wooded area will due.
One thing that kind of clues me in that it’s false is that the guy said the Werewolves were running at 45mph on their hind legs. Now, if you had 4 legs wouldn’t you think that you could move much faster utilizing all of them? Furthermore a Wolf’s legs are not situated in such a way to allow it to run on it’s hind legs. At best an animal with that style legs could hop or waddle whilst upright. We’ve all seen dogs that are trained to do it.
That’s right near me… going to have to do a little recon at the witching hour… They have been doing lots of contruction out in this area, I can only image that whatever they are… they are being displaced from where they call home because of new building of roads through the hillsides…
It’s very vast out there where the sighting is, so there’s a possiblity that there could be something out there. There is also alot of little water reserves within this area as well. So there is food and water supply for something to easily live out of sight.
I hope this individual will keep a digital camera on him and take some pictures if this ever happens again.
jbondo,
Hah! paranoid are we?
j/k. I do the same
yea, the man’s account of the creatures seems like he took it from Linda Godfrey’s book. There are several reports in the book that talk about these “wolves” chasing cars on their hind legs.
Hmmmm…..

well, supposedly and I do mean supposedly, the endorphins and pituitary gland react creating a rush of testosterone and other aminos when and if the transformation occurs. Is it fairy tale? Probably. If it wasn’t, we would have seen or heard about it in a circus side show by now. That would be a ringmaster’s ultimate goal don’t ya think? But if there is all that chemical activity going on in the brain and the muscles do increase along with strength, it could be possible for speeds like that. I’m obviously no scientist, but that’s my take on what little info I know.
I think if we stumbled on a race that could actually transform, we would see dramatic changes in our society…whattaya think?
very weird. I know where this person works. I just quit there before this happened. they wanted to give me the same shift and also the graveyard shift. glad I left. It was very creepy and lonely at night.
could these have been skinwalkers? The way they kept up with the car going 45 mph is typical skinwalker behavior..or rather lore.
I often search on line for werewolf sightings to support what I saw
back in the summer of 1972 as truth and not a hallucination. I was walking through Westlake Park in Los Angeles. At that time it was rather crime free compared to now. I was with a boyfried. We were on the main path. All of a sudden a figure come running down the opposite side of the park. He didn’t seem to see us and something about him frightened me . I held my boyfriend back so this figure didnot see us. He suddenly just sailed over a park bench and kept on going like it was nothing. Then I realised as he leapt over the bench what was so strange about him. He had a wolf’s head. It did not look like a mask. It looked real like the specail effects from the movie “Howling”, but that was to be released several years later. It was very unnerving.

My mom and cousin saw two creatures in the middle of the street a few days ago, and the sighting may have to do with this one. They said that they were some sort of canine.. insanely tall, and skinny, with HUGE ears..It was about 4 and 1/2 feet tall on all fours, from what they had described.. They thought they were wolves first, but they said it didn’t look like any animal they’ve seen before..The canines had legs as thin as a deer’s and had a large chest even though they were skinny. Ears were somewhat like a German Shepherd dog’s but far taller. I live a little more south of where you saw it..
What Julia just said up there describes creatures,
And after telling one of my closest friends that I know very well about them, He said he felt depressed, just like she did before she saw them. He went outside to look, and… I think it got him.. It’s like a spirit took ahold of his body, it told me so many things.
I was traumatized. Nothing like this ever happened before…
They called themselves “Lemetrei” And said they just wanted to have bodies to keep… Life shells for their spirits…
Wow. That story was remarkably similar to events going on in my neighborhood as I am typing this. The description perfectly matches something I, and my friends, have seen multiple times. My blog (The Beast of Kellogg Creek) has the whole story so far posted.
