Friday Video: Fire in the Sky

I thought “Fire in the Sky” would be an appropriate film to show on this installment of Friday Video. With all the talk about the China UFO and Travis Walton speaking at the Missouri MUFON conference, I’m sure many have not seen the movie based on Travis Walton’s claims.
I saw this movie long ago and I must say that it is one of my favorite movies to watch. Whether you believe Travis Walton’s story or not, the movie tells a good story.

I’ve talked about how I visited Snowflake Arizona on GhostTheory before. I briefly mentioned that my brother and I drove to Roswell to check out the International UFO Museum and then went all the way to Snowflake to pick up a puppy. I was getting a gift for my girlfriend, a Scottish Terrier, and the only breeder that I found that had a new litter was in Arizona. So we left for a 3 day long road trip. What I can tell you about the town of Snowflake is that it is a really small community. Driving through the White Mountains was terrifying. I was telling my brother the story of Travis Walton and getting really into the details of the abduction, while at the same time looking at the horizon as the sun was setting. I was trying to reach the town of Snowflake before nightfall. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to be driving through the mountains at night. Not after knowing about Travis Walton. A couple of city kids driving like maniacs through Arizona’s White Mountains. The fear of a possible alien abduction or local cops harassing us was enough to have my attention at the horizon and speedometer. Hah! Good times.

There is one story that I’ve been wanting to share with you guys about how me and a good friend of mine almost got killed by a maniac truck driver in an desolate highway that runs through New Mexico. I think I will save that for next Friday Video. It’s funny, I haven’t seen my friend in a long time and I learned last night that he is in town this week. We are meeting tonight for dinner. He’s all grown up now and has a wife and a daughter. Crazy how things change. I know we will be recounting that truck driver story over some good wine tonight. Can’t wait.

I’ve been wanting to share something else with you guys. Lately I’ve been having horrible nightmares brought on by my writing. The Doris Bither story is so vivid and important to me that I think it’s slowly taking over my life. The other night I had a horrible dream that I was being attacked by the same things that supposedly attacked her. I woke up in a confused state and with my heart beating almost out of my chest. I know that the stress and work that is put in a book will play heavily into the writer’s mind, but this is some real frightening stuff. I hate going to bed at times for the fear of what will manifest in my dreams. I’ve been wanting to train my body to only do 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night for two purposes. One is to get more time to work on the book, the other is to spend less time asleep and not have those nightmares.

It’s strange really. I don’t know why I feel so compelled to tell this story. I found out about Doris Bither when I used to live in Culver City. Only a few miles away from the house in which the events took place. Ever since then, I have been feeling an attraction to the case. Back in the day, before GhostTheory and my writing, I wanted to find out more about the case and contacted a few people about it. Just being curious. No one responded to my inquiries. Years later, I do a post on Doris and all of a sudden I’m in contact with her sons and working our way through the facts, misconceptions and the memories of what was a horrible nightmare to a family in the early 70s. I don’t know how this book is going to be received, but I know that this is a story that has two sides. It is important for me to tell the side of Doris that no one knows. Out of respect.

I hope you guys enjoy the movie and have a beautiful weekend.
