Cumberland Spaceman

Jim Templeton gained notoriety in May of 1964 after he had photographed his five-year-old daughter Elizabeth on a clear and sunny day in Burgh-by-Sands, Cumbria, England. In the photograph, an anomaly was revealed after he had received the developed film. Behind the smiling face of the child was what looked like a spaceman in full astronaut suit. Mr. Templeton wasn’t sure what that strange shape was in the background, so he decided to send the photo to the Kodak lab for an answer. What was he looking at in the photograph? Was it some joker playing a prank on Templeton and his family? Was it pareidolia?

When he received word from the people at Kodak, they told him that they could not find evidence of tampering or with a defect in the film. Whatever that “thing” is on the picture, it was physically present at the time it was taken. Mr. Templeton died at the age of ninety-one. Having always claimed that the photograph was not hoaxed.

“We have many happy memories of him. He was a happy man who had a heart of gold and he never thought ill of anybody, and he would talk to anybody, from the rag and bone man to royalty.”

As for the spaceman, Jim was always open-minded, pointing out that the photo, professionally developed by Kodak, was not a fake. -source: NewsandStar
