Giants In America

For those of you not aware of TED, it stands for Technology, Education, and Design.
TED is a by invitation only conference where speakers nominated by the public and peers are given a few minutes to discuss whatever their field of pursuit happens to be and many of them are extremely fascinating and informative.

The Ted conference has grown to the point that it can no longer accommodate all the speakers who might make a valuable contribution and so various independent TED conferences have cropped up and Jim Vieira has spoken at one of these independently organized events.

I strongly suggest you let this talk run it’s full course as while prehistoric earthworks are certainly topic enough to bring to GT readers, especially those that relate to astronomical alignments or particularly skillful workmanship previously thought beyond the skills of prehistoric humans, this talk takes a turn for the weird and crypto-zoological near the end. If you have no interest in earthworks and dry set masonry, at least skip forward to the 8:50 mark.

I am not sure what to think of it.

Bigfoot? No description of either Gigantopithecus or Australopithecus Robust matches the description of double rows of teeth! Okay, now there is some tenuous information that Bigfoot might be a human hybrid of some sort with another as yet unknown hominid. Have we found a potential culprit for these unions?

Yes, I am suspicious that no examples of these skeletons were preserved, or at least have not come to light. However there are enough independent reports from a culture not bound by the quest for 15 minutes of fame so sought after and easily acquired in our modern culture. Nor am I one to say this lends credibility to the bible as being Nephilim, yet the people who wrote the bible could well have been simply passing down stories of these giants and put them to their own use.

Even today there are people no less human than you or I (and I am not that sure about all of you) who can grow to enormous size.

So is it so difficult to believe that such anomalies were present prehistorically? And how would those people have been seen by those around them? Speaking as a man who is 6′ 4″ tall, I can say I get a lot of notice and comment on my size. And my height is much more common now than being even 6 feet tall thousands of years ago, so is it any wonder that superstitious early cultures might have attributed these people with supernatural importance of not powers and so might have given them special burials.

But…I do not have double rows of teeth. I cannot say about that, though I would love to know more.
